The Portola Foundation's Team

The Portola Foundation is comprised of volunteers. The core of this team came together in 1980 to develop a series of solutions to medical needs of children identified by the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco, Stanford Medical Center, and the International Committee for the Red Cross

CEO: Jim Carnahan BS, ME, U. of Kansas, Founder - VP of Production, Lear Jet...VP of Production, Boeing...CEO of Portola Medical Foundation since 1980. Jim collaborated with Charlie Scurlock for twenty-six years in the development of a wide variety of medical needs.

COORDINATOR: Charlie Scurlock, Cofounder, U. of Illinois, Physics, Honorary Ph.D., UCLA - Systems Scientist and RAND Corp...Retired at 40...R&D numerous medical concepts.

NEUROSURGEON: John R. Adler MD, Stanford University,...Principle Investigator of Cyberknife. Twenty years affiliation with Charlie Scurlock.

PROTOTYPE MODEL DEVELOPMENT: Art Villa, President of A&J Product Solutions.

RESEARCH SCIENTIST: William H. T. La, MD, Ph.D.

DESIGN: Peter Muller, Masters in Product Design, U. of Darmstadt Germany - Woner, Interform (www.Inter4m.com) product development and design. Medical client list includes CIBA, PRIA Diagnostics, Kyphon, Nova Sys, Vascular Architects and Telecom Medical.

Clinical Coordinator: Benjamin R. Mandac MD, Chief of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, Kaiser Hospitals...consulted on development of PORTOLA, our forearm crutch.
